DHAKA: Renowned musician and music director Ali Akbar Rupu has passed away at the age of 57 on Thursday (February 22).
He breathed his last around 12:04pm in city’s United Hospital. following prolonged illness.
Rupu’s wife Nargis Akbar told Banglanews that he was suffering from heart and kidney related illness for long time. He went through kidney dialysis many times in the past seven months. On February 9, he had a stroke during dialyses process.
She also said that Rupu’s body will be taken to Gulshan Azad mosque and his namaz-e-janaza will be held after Asar prayer. From the mosque, his body will be first taken to BTV office and then to his home in Moghbazar where a second nama-e-janaza will be held.
He will be laid to eternal rest at Azimpur graveyard, she added.
The musician was famous for his songs in the popular magazine show Ittyadi. He also worked as music director in famous in films like ‘Rastar Chele’ and “Dui Biyaiyer Kirti”.
