CHITTAGONG: Police detained three persons over shooting an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) at a police check post in Sholoshahar area of Chittagong Friday afternoon (Feb 16).

The detainees are identified as Khokon Chowdhury, 24, Ayman Jihad, 22 and Mahi, 18.

Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP, North) Abdul Warish Khan told Banglanews that Khokon, a professional mugger, opened fire on the police. He was detained from Anwara area of the city.

However, the arms used in the shooting couldn’t be recovered, he said.  

Khokon and Ayman, an O-level student, were caught from Anwara area while Mahi was nabbed from Rahmannagar area under Panchlaish thana, on early Sunday (February 18).

Panchlaish Police Station ASI Abdul Malek, 38, was shot by some motorcycle ridden miscreants while he was conducting search operation at the checkpost Friday. The men immediately left the scene leaving him bullet-hit.
