AL leader held in Dhaka over Narail UP chairman murder

NARAIL: Police detained the prime accused of Dighalia Union Parishad (UP) chairman murder in Lohagara upazila of Narail.  

The accused was identified as Sharif Moniruzzaman, joint general secretary of Narail District unit Awami League.

A team of Narail sadar police station with the assistance of Dhaka police nabbed Sharif from Dhaka early on Sunday (February 18), said Narail Superintendent of Police Sardar Rakibul Islam.

Earlier, freedom fighter Saifur Rahman Hilu, brother of the deceased, lodged a case with Lohagara police station against 15 persons on Saturday night (February 18).

Meanwhile, in suspicion of involvement in the incident, police sent four people including the UP members to jail after interrogation under section 54.

Latifur Rahman Palash, also an Awami League leader, was killed at upazila square around 12:30 pm on Thursday (February 15).

Palash was buried on Friday afternoon (February 16).
