Glitch at Padma Bridge crane, 2nd span to be moved Saturday The span will be installed on 38, 39 no pillars at Zajira point of the Padma Bridge

MUNSHIGANJ: The engineers of Padma Bridge construction project have temporarily suspended span movement operation due to a glitch found at the crane-Tian Yi- that carries the large spans (super structure) of the bridge.

The crane was supposed to carry the 7B second span around 9:00am Friday (January 19) from Mawa’s Kumarvog construction yard to Zajira point.

The crane ‘Tian Yi’ has a loading capacity of 3,600 tonnes at a time. The authorities suspended the crane operation to avoid any accident as the crane started wobbling after picking up the 150 meter length and 3,140 tonnes of span.

Padma Bridge project engineer Humayun Kabir told Banglanews that the crane started to quiver due to balancing problem. The problem occurred on Thursday night (January 18). It can be dangerous to move span in this condition. The span will be moved to Zajira point as soon as the crane problem is sorted out.
