DHAKA UNIVERSITY: State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak expressed his determination to bring 16 crore people of the country under the internet coverage.

The State Minister made the statement at the inauguration of a rally organized on the occasion of National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Day held in city’s Shahbagh area on Tuesday (December 12).
 
This year’s slogan was ‘Safe internet for everyone.’ 

The Minister said that there were around 8 lakh internet users 9 years ago, now 8 crore people are using internet. Thus, we want to bring the whole 16 crore people under internet connection.

Speaking about internet connection across Bangladesh, he said currently around 99% folks are under 3G connections. Broadband connectivity and Fiber Optic Cable have already reached out to the unions in the country side.

According to pledge of PM Sheikh Hasina, we will bring 4,500 unions under Fiber Optic High Speed Connectivity by 2018.

Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) brought out the rally from TSC area of Dhaka University and ended it at Central Shaheed Minar.

There will a concert at 5:30 pm at Mall Chattar area of DU.
