MADARIPUR: A defamation case has been filed against Dr Asif Nazrul, a professor of Dhaka University, in Madaripur.

The case was filed on Thursday (November 23) accusing Dr Asif Nazrul for making `false statement’ on his faecbook wall against shipping minister Shajahan Khan.   

The minister’s cousin Faruk Khan filed the case with the court under Section 500 and 501. The case number is 400/2017.

Advocate Golam Kibria, a lawyer of Madaripur court, said that Dr Asif Nazrul wrote on his facebook wall that 90 people out of 92 were passed in a recruitment test. The 90 people are relatives and inhabitants of the shipping minister’s area. The information is not true.

Faruk Khan wanted to file the case under Section 57 of Information Communications Technology (ICT) act, but the court did not receive the case under the section. Later, the court accepted the defamation case.
