DHAKA: A Kolkata-bound SpiceJet aircraft with 78 passengers on-board escaped major accident after one its wheel bearing broke down at Dhaka airport on Friday morning (Nov 17).

Airport Armed Police Battalion’s (APBN) assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Ashrafuzzaman said the accident happened around 11:00am while the aircraft was moving on the taxi-way towards the runway. However, no one was hurt in the incident. 

“The bearing if the rear left side wheel of plane suddenly broke down. The plane did not catch on fire but there was a lot of smoke seen coming out of the wheels. The fire service office was near and they contain the situation quickly.”

The aircraft was moved to hanger after all the passengers were evacuated safely. They are currently waiting in the terminal. The flight will take off to destination as soon as a new wheel is installed, he added.
