Execution of 2 death-row convicts in Jessore anytime

JESSORE: Two convicts sentenced to death for killing of a freedom fighter in Chuadanda are to be executed anytime tonight (Thursday) at the Jessore Central Jail.

All preparations for the execution of death-row inmates Abdul Mokim, 60, and Jhoru, 62, have been completed, said the jail authorities.

The family members of the two convicts have already met them in the jail.

Monwar Hossain, a freedom fighter of Durlavpur village at Alamdanga upazila in Chuadanga and was also an UP member, was killed by the extremists of Puba Bangla Communist Party on June 28 in 1994.

Later, his brother filed a case with Alamdanga police station accusing 21 people.

In 2016, the trial court awarded death sentence to three accused, life term imprisonment to two persons, while the court acquitted the rest 16 accused from the charge.

Later, the higher court upheld death sentence for two convicts and exempted for one.
