CHITTAGONG: Police detained two people on charge of carried out attack upon two journalists in Jamalkhan area of Chittagong city early Wednesday (November 15).
The detainees were identified as Kaisar Hamid and Sakhawat Hossain.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jashim Uddin told Banglanews that on information they nabbed the duo immediately after the incident.
“We are suspecting them of being muggers. It will be confirmed after the interrogation whether they had any other evil intention”, he said.
Sources said that Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) President also Bureau Chief of Bangladesh Pratidin Riaz Haider Chowdhury and Joint Secretary Swarup Bhattacharya came under attack before a school in Jamalkhan area at around 12:30am, while they were returning from a hospital after visiting an ailing journalist.
Riaz was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) after the incident.
Police said that Kaiser is accused in several cases filed with different police stations in the city, on charge of possessing illegal arms, mugging and extortion business.
