Lakehead Grammar School sealed off

DHAKA: Two branches of Lakehead Grammar School in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi and Gulshan area have been sealed off for its alleged connection with militancy and anti-liberation war activities.

A law enforcing team led by Dhaka district administration executive magistrate Ilias Mehedi stopped all operations of the school on Tuesday afternoon (Nov 7).

Ilias Mehedi said the school has been sealed off as per the directives given by Education Ministry.

Earlier on Nov 6, Education ministry sent an order to Dhaka district administration for taking actions to stop all activities of the school.

According to the order, the two branches of the Lakehead school don’t have any permission from the ministry and also associated with provoking militancy and extremism.

The Lakehead school, first established in Dhanmondi-6 area in 2006, was facing allegations of militancy aids. The very first principal of the school, Jenifar Ahmed, was the wife of former Dhaka University prof Golam Mawla who played a key role forming Hizb ut-Tahrir. She was also associated with the banned extremist organization.

After Hizb ut-Tahrir was banned in 2009, Harun Engineering Limited's chief Harun-ar Rashid and his son most wanted militant Rezwan Harun took charge of the school.
