5 Sylhet businessman among 9 killed on Dhaka-Syl highway

NARSINGDI: At least nine people were killed and several others were injured critically in two separate road accidents on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Narsingdi on Monday (October 30).

The tragic accidents took place at Madhabdi and Shibpur upazilas of Narsingdi district in the morning.

In Madhabdi, at six people were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus at Kandail area around 6:00 am.

The accident happened when a Narayanganj-bound bus collided with a Sylhet-bound microbus, leaving four passengers of the microbus dead on the spot and three other passengers of the microbus injured. Nine others were also injured in the accident. Later, two succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Madhabdi police station Elius Miah confirmed the matter to the Banglanews. He said that all the victims are passengers of the microbus.

The deceased were identified as Rezaul Karim, inhabitant of Mathiura village at Beanibazar upazila in Sylhet and a proprietor of Jaman Ruposhi Fashion in Beani Bazar municipality, Khairul Bashar, inhabitant of Chhotodesh village and proprietor of Sokh Cosmetics, his niece and proprietor of Matin Cloth Store Juber Ahmed, Ikbal Hossain, businessman of Kakordia area, businessman of Kosba Babul Hossain, and microbus driver Babul Ahmed.  

They went to Cox’s Bazar to give relief materials for Rohingyas. They were returning to Sylhet.

In Shibpur, at least three people were killed when a bus hit a human hauler in Kararchar area at the upazila at about 10:00 am.

The deceased were identified as Arman, 48, Masum Bhuiyan and Billal Mia, 19.

Arman died on the spot and five others, including Masum and Billal were injured. Later, the injured were rushed to the hospital where Masum and Billal succumbed to injuries
