DHAKA: The much-waited flyover connecting Moghbazar-Mouchak-Malibagh areas will be open for traffic movement and city dwellers on Thursday (Oct 26).

Previously, the government made several failed attempts to inaugurate the flyover as the construction was work of the overpass had missed deadlines. However, the long wait is about to end for the concerned residents around the overpass areas.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the flyover around 12:00pm through video conferencing from Ganabhaban on Oct 26.

Sources said, the flyover was supposed to be inaugurated by the end of last September. However, it did not open in due time as the Prime minister was abroad attending the 72nd general assembly of the United Nations.

Flyover’s project director Shushanto Kumar Pal said no such delay will happen this time and the 8.25km long flyover will be open to traffic on Oct 23.

Residents of Satrasta, FDC, Moghbazar, Mouchak, Shantinagar, Malibagh areas had been suffering from immense traffic congestion due to the overpass construction work for the last four-five years. Many in the areas expressed hope that the opening of this overpass will put an end to that misery.

The government took the project of Mogbazar-Mouchak Flyover in 2011 to ensure the smooth movement of traffic in Mogbazar-Mouchak-Malibagh-Shantinagar and Tejgaon areas of the capital. Later on Feb 16 in 2013, the PM inaugurated the construction work of the flyover. It missed several deadline to complete the work since then.
