Rice prices mark slight fall in Dhaka market

DHAKA: Consumers are witnessing gradual fall in the rice prices in retail markets after four months of volatility following haor havoc and floods that damaged a huge amount of food grains.

A few days earlier, rice prices came down in the whole sale market and the retail market has been influenced by it. On Friday (Sep 22), it was seen that prices of different kinds of rice have dropped Tk 2-3per kg except Najirshair rice.

However, no changes in vegetable prices were found after observing the kitchen market in city’s karwanbazar, Shukrabad, East Rayerbazar areas. Vegetable prices are still soaring.

As per the latest information, Miniket rice per kilogram is being sold at Tk 63 which was 65 in last week, BR-28 is being sold at Tk 54 instead of 57, Parija and Shorna are being sold at Tk50 instead of Tk52-53. Only Najirshair rice is being sold at Tk 70 as before.

One rice retailer of Karwanbazar kitchen market, Nazir Talukdar, told Banglanews that the price started to fall as the whole sale market is becoming stable. The prices will further decrease if this downward trend continues.
