DHAKA: Inspector General of Bangladesh Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque said that social and political commitment is necessary to eliminate militancy from the country.
He made the remark while addressing as chief guest in a debate contest program titled ‘Role of Social Commitment to Prevent Militancy’ at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation in city’s Tejgaon area on Monday noon (Aug 21).
IGP said, “We have conducted 23 operations so far against militancy. But it has not been wiped out completely due to lack of social commitment.”
“Young generations are being allured to the trap of militancy by using false and incomplete explanations of religion. Creating more social awareness by providing right explanation of religion must continue to grow in society.”
Urging common people to create a mass movement against militancy, IGP also said if there is a lack of political dedication then administration will be inactive. If the ruling party is sincere, the administration will also sincerely work to curb militancy.
