55% corruption in passport service: TIB TIB holding a press conference in Dhanmodi

DHAKA: Around 55.2 per cent people have fallen victim of irregularities and corruption while receiving services of the passport office, says Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).

The disclosure was made in a press conference titled “Passport Service: Challenge and Doable” at TIB office in city’s Dhanmondi area on Monday (Aug 21).

In the press conference, TIB said that the information was gathered from a survey participated by 1,453 people in 26 out of 67 passport offices of the country. The research report was produced in between of September 2016 to May 2017.
     
According to an earlier national survey report in 2015, around 77 per cent people were victims of corruption while receiving passport services. Of them 76.1 per cent were victims of bribery and irregular payment. 

TIB chairman Advocate Sultana Kamal, Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman and former president Hafizur Rahman among others were present at the press conference.
