MYMENSINGH: A tribunal of Mymensingh on Thursday (August 17) awarded death sentence to a man for killing his wife at Fulbaria upazila in the district.

Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Helal Uddin delivered the verdict. The court, however, acquitted another accused in the case.

The convict is Moniruzzaman, son of Idris Ali of Fulbaria upazila. His friend Nazrul Islam was acquitted from the charge.

According to the case statement, Moniruzzaman’s wife Papiya Akhter, 21, was killed on April 27 in 2010.

Papiya, daughter of Safar Ali of the upazila, got married to Moniruzzaman in 2009. The husband had torturing Papiya over dowry. At last, he killed the housewife.
