DHAKA: The seventh conference on the occasion of the Social Business Day 2017, scheduled to be held on Friday (July 28) and Saturday (July 29) in Savar, has been canceled ‘due to unavoidable circumstances’.

The Yunus Centre made the announcement in a press release issued on Thursday evening (July 27).

The conference was scheduled to be inaugurated at 9:00 am at Samajik Convention Centre at Zirabo in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital city.

“With a heavy heart we inform you that we are canceling the 7th international conference organized on July 28 and 29 on the occasion of Social Business Day,” it was said in the press release.

The Yunus Centre requested the guests and participants invited and registered for the opening ceremony and also to participate in the conference to cancel their plans to join the conference.

“We humbly apologize to the guests and participants, local and from around the world, who have spent their time and money to take part in this conference.”

The press release claimed that about 200 international participants from 50 countries, including Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations Thomas Gass, have already arrived in Dhaka to participate in the conference.

Thomas Gass was scheduled to attend in the conference as the Keynote Speaker. He is the focal person to implement the Sustainable Development Goals undertaken by the United Nations.

According to the Yunus Centre, about 2000 people, among them about 400 foreigners, from 50 countries have registered to participate in the conference.
