DHAKA: Law minister has submitted the draft copy of the discipline and code of conduct for lower court judges to Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.

The law minister handed over the draft in a meeting with the Chief Justice on Thursday afternoon (July 27th).

After the meeting, Anisul Huq told reporters, “I have submitted the draft copy of judges code of conduct. He will review it and the draft will be sent to the president for final approval. After the President's approval, it will be published in the form of a gazette.”

Earlier on July 23, the Supreme Court granted a week to government for publishing the gazette.

On July 16, the law minister assured that the draft will be ready soon after a meeting with the Chief Justice.

Even before that, earlier on July 2, Law Minister hoped to publish the gazette by July 15 after the apex court gave last two weeks time for the gazette publication in response to a time plea filed by the government.

Anisul Huq then said, “The matter needs meticulous care as the conduct rules will affect judges. We are carefully filtering the rules to avoid questionable contents. Hopefully, it will be ready by July 15.”

On December 12 last year, the court had asked the authorities concerned to issue the gazette by January 15. The deadline was extended several times since then.
