DHAKA: Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said that two projects have been initiated to redress the problems created by waterlogging in the capital city.

The minister was addressing a press briefing at the ministry’s Conference room, marking Dhaka Water Conference 2017 jointly organized by the ministries of LGRD and Water Resources.

Earlier any extended plan wasn’t taken for the drainage system of Dhaka as such heavy rainfall hadn’t been marked in the past, he said.

“Now preparations are being taken following the situation we are facing”.

“Meanwhile, two projects have been initiated. This problem won’t repeat next year”, he added.

Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud said that the people should be aware for escaping the hassles of waterlogging.

Garbage should not be thrown in the roads, he mentioned.

State Minister for Water Resources Muhammad Nazrul Islam was among others present there.

However, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is supposed to inaugurate the Dhaka Water Conference which will kick off on July 29, in participation of total 27 countries, in Dhaka.
