DHAKA: Siddiqur Rahman, a college student who was injured in police action against students of seven DU affiliated colleges protesting for examination dates in Shahbagh, is being taken to Chennai, the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, for better treatment.
Health and Family Welfare Ministry has taken all preparations for the treatment of Siddiqur’s eyes. Both eyes of Siddiqur, a Tejgaon College student, were damaged in the police-student clash.
The government has taken the overall responsibility of carrying Siddiqur's medical expenses as per the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
On Thursday (July 20), the students of seven government colleges of Dhaka city, which were affiliated to the Dhaka University in February last, gathered in Shahbag and joined a sit-in program demanding reducing of session jam, immediate taking of annual examinations and publishing routine.
A clash took place between the police and the students when the police came in action to disperse the gathering. Police threw rubber bullets and tear gas shells to foil the sit-in program.
Some students were injured in the clash. Siddiqur Rahman, a student of Tejgaon College, received serious injury in his eye and he is now undergoing treatment.
