DHAKA: Noted columnist, writer and poet Farhad Mazhar who was rescued in Jessore 18 hours after he went missing on Monday, was taken to DB (Detective Branch) office in Dhaka for quizzing on Tuesday (July 4).

Earlier, in the morning, a team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) escorted Mazhar from Jessore to Adabar Police station in the capital’s Mohammadpur at around 09:10am.

DMP Media wing assistant commissioner Sumon Kanti Chowdhury said that Mazhar will be quizzed at the DB office.

Mazar’s wife Farida Khatun, daughter and other family members visited him at the police station.

Earlier, law enforcers found Mazhar at a Dhaka-bound bus at Abhaynagar in Jessore in Dhaka-Khulna Highway, at around 11:30pm Monday, after he went missing reportedly early in the morning.

Khulna Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Didar Ahmed said at a press briefing arranged at Fultola Police Station in Khulna that Mazhar apparently went on an outing from his own.

On Monday, Farida Khatun claimed that Mazhar was abducted from his residence in the city’s Adabar area around 5:00am and later Tk 35 lakh was demanded as ransom.

A General Diary (GD) was also filed with Adabar Police Station in connection with the incident.

However, law enforcers traced Mazhar’s location by tracking his mobile phone and conducted search and rescue operation to find him.
