BENAPOLE (JESSORE): A car driver was killed and two others were injured as a passenger bus of India-Bangladesh Maitree express rammed a private car at Shyamalgacchi area of Jessore-Benapole Highway on Thursday morning (June 22).

The deceased was identified as Jahidul Rahman, 40. He was the car driver of Deputy Director of Benapole port Aminul Islam. 

Aminul Islam, 50, and his security guard Saiful Islam, 30, were injured in the incident. 

Police said that the Maitree express bus, runs under India’s Tripura Road Transport Authority in Agartola-Kolkata route via Dhaka, collided with the Pajero SUV on Jessore-Benapole Highway in Shyamolgacchi area around 9:00am while heading for Kolkata from Akhaura check-post in the morning. The crash left the Pajero driver dead on spot and two others critically injured.

Locals rescued Aminul and Saiful Sharsha Upazila Health Complex.

Police seized the bus and detained its Indian driver Biswajit Chakrabarty, said Sub-inspector (SI) Harun ur Rashid of Navaron Highway police outpost.
