Ramadan to begin Sunday as moon not sighted

DHAKA: The holy month of Ramadan will start on Sunday (May 28) as the new moon was not sighted anywhere in Bangladesh sky on Friday.

The decision came from the National Moon Sighting Committee meeting at Islamic Foundation auditorium in city’s Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Friday.

After the meeting, Principle Motiur Rahman, minister of Religious Affairs and President of National Moon Sighting Committee, said Ramadan will begin on Sunday as new moon was not sighted and the Laylat al-Qadr will be observed on the night of June 22.
