DHAKA: Top leader of banned outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) Maulana Saidur Rahman and two other militants have been sentenced to seven years and six months imprisonment in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Judge of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-6 Imrul Quayes delivered the verdict on Thursday (May 25) in presence of Saidur.

The two other convicted militants are Abdullah Hil Kafi and his wife Ayesha Akhter. They are on the run following bail from the High Court.

Saidur Rahman and two others were arrested on May 25 in 2010 from a residence in the city’s Dania area. Later, a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act was filed against them with Kadamtoli police station.

According to the case statement, it was alleged that the militants planned to create anarchy by committing subversive activities across the country.
