Former justice Manik summoned in court

DHAKA: A Dhaka court has summoned former justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik on charge of contempt of court for his ‘contemptuous comments’ about Chief Justice SK Sinha. 

Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka AKM Moyeen Uddin Siddique on Wednesday (March 29) ordered Justice Manik to appear before the court on May 21.  

Earlier in the morning, former president of the Dhaka Metropolitan Bar Association Arfanuddin Khan filed the case following Justice Manik’s comments against Chief Justice SK Sinha. 

Saleh Uddin Khan, a lawyer of the plaintiff, confirmed the matter to the Banglanews.  

According to the case statement, Justice Manik in a TV talk-show at DBC News on March 15 commented that ‘SK Sinha was member of the infamous Shanti Committee in 1971’.  Such comment defamed the apex court of the country, the case statement was said.
