Extremist killed in Khulna ‘gunfight’

KHULNA:  An alleged extremist was killed in a “gunfight” with a team of police in Haringhata South residential project, Khulna early Friday (February 24).

The deceased was identified as extremist group New Biplabi Communist Party’s second in command Zia Sana alias ‘Hat Kata’ Zia.

On information that a gang of dacoits were taking preparation to rob, police raided the area. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, they opened firing prompting police to firing for self-defense. This exchange of gunshots left five police men and Zia injured, said Haringhata officer in charge (OF) Mizanur Rahman.
Two firearms were recovered from the spot.

Zia was taken to Khulna Medical College where on duty doctor declared him dead, he added.

The dead body was kept in Khulna Medical College morgue. Zia was an accused of nine cases including six murder cases.
