DHAKA: The attack on a café in Gulshan diplomatic zone of Bangladesh’s capital left 20 hostages and two police officers dead while six attackers were killed during the rescue operation.
Moreover, a Japanese and two Sri Lankans among 13 were rescued from the operation.
Earlier, Brigadier General also director military operations Nayeem Ashfaq Chowdhury said at a press briefing at Dhaka Cantonment headquarters that the hostages were killed by sharp edged weapons in the early hours of the incident on Friday.
He also asked the people to contact Bangladesh Army over a hotline +8801769012524 for identifying the dead bodies.
However, the Army-Air-Navy joint drive, which was code named as ‘Operation Thunderbolt’, started at 7:40am and ended around 8:30am on Saturday (July 2).
Other law enforcers, including BGB, police, RAB and Detective Branch (DB) also took part in the operation.
They also seized four pistols, an AK-22, four IID, a walkie-talkie and sharp locally made weapons from the spot.
