DHAKA: After losing many awards and titles, Myanmar's de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi has lost a prestigious human rights ‘Elie Wiesel Award’ given to her by US Holocaust Memorial Museum. 

The Museum said on March 7 that it has rescinded its top award to Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi because of her failure to condemn and stop military attacks on her country’s minority Rohingya Muslims, reports ABC News.

"As the military's attacks against the Rohingya unfolded in 2016 and 2017, we had hoped that you -- as someone we and many others have celebrated for your commitment to human dignity and universal human rights -- would have done something to condemn and stop the military's brutal campaign and to express solidarity with the targeted Rohingya population," the museum said in a letter to Suu Kyi.

Elie Wiesel Award to Suu Kyi is the latest honor to be retracted from the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize winner, because of her silence about widespread abuses, persecution of Rohingyas.
