DHAKA: At least 15 United Nations (UN) peacekeepers were killed and 53 injured in a rebel attack on a base in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo on Friday (December 9).

The UN secretary general, António Guterres, termed the attack as “a war crime,” while expressing his outrage and utter heartbreak.

Also, he described this attack as the worst in the UN’s recent history.

The attack has been blamed on suspected militants from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) — an Islamist rebel group that has been active in the area.
