NEW WORK: Another Bangladeshi, who was working at UNDP in the United Nations in New York, was detained on Tuesday (June 20) on charge of abusing power.
The detainee was identified as Hamidur Rashid, chief of Development Strategy and Policy Analysis unit of the UNDP.
Hamidur was accused of visa fraud, labor trafficking, and low wages for Bangladeshi workers.
Manhattan Attorney June Kim said that Hamidur made a contract with his maid to pay $ 420 a week and working hour would not exceed more than 40 hours in the five days of a week as per contract.
But, it was alleged that he paid $ 290 a week and worked him more than 40 hours in five days from the start of job in 2013.
Earlier on June 12, Shahidul Islam, Deputy Consul General of Bangladesh in New York, was arrested on charges of torturing a domestic worker.
