3 DU teachers sans Masters!

DHAKA UNIVERSITY (DU): Three persons have no Masters degree, but got appointment as teachers in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering departments of Dhaka University (DU).

DU syndicate committee on October 31 appointed Tanvir Ahmed, Nurus Sakib and Sajib Barua though the master degree was job prerequisite as per circular.

According to the committee, the teachers have been appointed by relaxing the terms and conditions of recruitment process.

Moreover, the syndicate also recommended nine persons to appoint as lecturers against four vacant posts.

Sources concerned thinks that regular DU students were undermined due to the dual policy of the DU authorities in recruiting teachers.

Seeking anonymity, a DU teacher told Banglanews that only the Maters passed students were recruited as teachers in the university.

“The DU students require Masters Degree for teaching at the university but we have seen here that students only having honors from other universities are being appointed as teachers by avoiding the recruitment law.”

According to the teacher, it was a discrimination against DU students who applied to be teachers.

Moreover, the syndicate committee has recommended nine more teachers to be recruited against four vacant seats.

They were Dr. M Shahruzzaman, Sirajur Rahman, Shanta Biswas, Minhazul Islam, Sazedul Islam and Saikot Chandra Dey.

Responding to the matter, DU Applied Chemistry department chairman Dr. Amin said the recruitment notice was issued without the consent of the department as well as of the coordination and development (C&D) committee.

DU vice-chancellor Professor Dr. AAMS Arefn Siddique commented that some departments intentionally undermine the university’s recruitment process in order to appoint their favorite students as teachers.
