BTRC sets fine Tk 5,000 for each unregistered SIM

DHAKA: Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued a set of directives to prevent illegal and unregistered SIM sale.

The fine was set at Tk 5,000 for sale of each SIM card without biometric registration, false information and pre-activation.

The directives were sent to the mobile phone operating companies on Monday (April 2).

The directives were issued to prevent threatening, extortion and harassment using phone calls and maintain the terms of licence for fair and disciplined operation, as per the Telecommunication Act 2001, said the letter signed by BTRC Systems & Services Division Director Lt Col Mohammad Azizur Rahman.

All the directives issued earlier of this latest one will also remain effective and the new one will be counted as the final version if any inconsistency exists.
