BTRC asks mobile operators to explain call drop

DHAKA: Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on Monday (October 22) issued letters to all the mobile operators seeking explanation about call drop incidents and asked them to submit reports within next five working days.

The regulatory body issued the letter a day after the remark of Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed during the parliamentary session about the call drop against a mobile phone operator.

The Minister on Sunday (October 21) expressed his dissatisfaction, saying Grameenphone makes the call drop incidents for doing business. It drops 4 to 5 times in a call, it is not realistic. Action should be taken in this regard.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Thursday urged the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar to look into the matter.

Later on Monday, the letter signed by BTRC Director (Engineering and Operations Division) Golam Razzaq was sent to the chiefs of operators about customers’ dissatisfaction due to the increase of voice call drop.
