NASA Space Apps Challenge 2018 kicks off

Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) along with BASIS Student’s Forum have organized consecutively for the 4th time ‘NASA Space Apps Challenge 2018.’

NASA implemented this project in 250 cities globally this year while BASIS organized this event in 9 cities (Dhaka, Sylhet, Chittagong, Barisal, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal and Comilla) of Bangladesh. Initiatives have been taken to engage 50 lakhs students in this competition through social networking as well as I lakh directly.

More than 2000 projects were submitted for this competition in 8 cities this year. Of them, top 40 projects were selected for the Hack-a-Thon, which will be held at Independent University on October 19-20.

Convener of NASA Space Apps Challenge-2018 Didarul Alam said: “Last year, we received 453 projects after dividing Bangladesh into 8 zones. Of them, 131 projects were selected. However, a total of 11 best projects were selected as per the rule of NASA. Among 11, 2 projects got Global People’s Choice Finalists. This year, 18 teams were selected for NASA from 9 cities. We’re prepared to do something better this time.”

After 36 hours of Hack-a-Thon, prize giving ceremony will take place at 7 pm on October 20.   Posts, Telecommunications and IT Minister Mustafa Jabbar will grace the event while Secretary of the ministry Shyam Sunder Sikder will be present as the Special Guest.
