BCB cannot organize training facilities

Amidst the spread of COVID 19 contamination, ICC member countries have started taking initiatives for preparation the teams for the ensuing tight international commitments.

England and West Indies are all set for three matches test series in July 2020 in empty stadiums. Australia, New Zealand and India are preparing for bilateral series. Pakistan is expecting that its series against England will get going. Sri Lanka has made special training arrangements for its players for probable series against Bangladesh. Some of associate member countries like Nepal, Thailand are also planning to organize special training programs for their players.

While all these are happening around the cricket and players are eager to get back into business BCB has regretted to accept players request to let them practice using indoor facilities of Sher-e Bangla National Stadium. Three months is way too much for international cricket players staying put in home. It is almost impossible keeping physically fit and mentally tuned for international matches if not doing exact works of real time bowling and batting.

True coronavirus spread in Bangladesh is still peaking in Bangladesh. But government and private offices, all kinds of transports, businesses have started opening maintaining caution and care. Why can not BCB organize facilities for safe and secure training of the Bangladesh internationals?  It is not acceptable for judicious persons.

BCB can easily hire a special bus, disinfecting it regularly for bringing players from home and sending them back. Bus drivers and attendants can have regular health checks. The players can also be checked. Players can come in group of 5-6 and spend time practicing in the indoor nets bowling and batting. We understand Mushfique, Mahmudullah and mates must be itching for that.

The stubborn attitude of BCB in delaying their action plan is a testimony that they are way behind growing to a professional organization. None will suggest them risking health hazards for the players. But there is definite ways of organizing safe training program. Or else if ICC feels safe in a month of two for resuming International Cricket Bangladesh players will lag far behind as far as fitness for international cricket.
