Bangladesh Vs ODI Series
Ist Match Played at Sylhet National Stadium on 1 March 2020
Brief Scorecard:
Bangladesh 321/6  (Liton K Das 126 retired hurt, Mohammad Mithun 50,Mahmudullah Riad 32, Nazmul Hossain 29, Mohammad Saifuddin 28* ,Tamim Iqbal 24, Mushfiqur Rahim 19, CB  Mpofu 2/68) beat  Zimbabwe 152 All Out ( M Madhevere 35 , CT Mudombodzi 24, Saifuddin 3/22, Mehedi Miraj 2/33, Mashrafee 2/35) by 169 Runs
Player of The Match: Liton K Das

Weak Zimbabwe further weakened by the absence of two senior players proved complete mismatch for almost full strength Bangladesh.

Winning the toss and batting first Bangladesh produced their highest ever 321/6 and then went on crashing the visitors for 152 all out. The feature of the match was a very fluent 126 by opener Liton K Das , punishing 50 by Mohammad Mithun and explosive unbeaten 28 in 15 deliveries by pace bowling all rounder Mohammad Saifuddin. It was always a tall order for the weak touring batting unit producing a competitive score against much stronger Bangladesh bowling unit. They finished all out for 152 presenting the home team a huge win by 169 runs.

Bangladesh was desperately looking for wins in all formats of the game after a very uneasy spell of defeats. Home team getting its favorite sparing partner knocked them down in lone test. Following that huge success Bangladesh also floored them in the first match of three matches ODI series by huge margin . It was extremely difficult for Zimbabwe matching Bangladesh even at full strength. Unfortunately Irvine got injured and Williams could not reach Sylhet on time. Bangladesh was only without Shakib Al Hasan. Four of the fabulous five including Mashrafee Bin Murtaza was back again leading the team to 48 th ODI win as captain of the team in great fashion. Mohammad Saifuddin returning after rehabilitation from long lay off producing a great all round display was another bright feature of the match apart from very dynamic batting of opener Liton. The score of Bangladesh could be yet more if flamboyant Liton was not retired hurt when he was rocking.

Mashrafee opted to bat after proving lucky with the coin. Liton was blazing from the outset while Tamim looked rusty. The opening partnership produced 60 in12.5 overs as Tamim was declared LBW for 24 scored in very unfamiliar Tamim fashion off 43 deliveries  . He wasted a DRS which made youngster Nazmul Hossain Shanto asking for that when he was also adjudged LBW after scoring 29. The second wicket partnership was going great for 80 by that time . Shanto could be saved if DRS was sought. Liton was going well scoring eye catching delightful strokes . Mushfique got out through a very soft dismal when his innings was just flourishing for 19. Liton raced to his century and was looking set for a big hundred . But after striking a huge six he develop muscle strain at 126 . Bangladesh score could soar still higher if he had not left at that stage. However Mithun and Mahmudullah also produced a dynamic of 68 when again Mahmudullah was also  adjudged LBW for 32 . Mithun played a punishing innings of 50  in 41 deliveries . Mohammad Siafuddin gave a great finishing touch striking 3 towering sixes of the last over and taking the score to 321 /6 a new milestone for Bangladesh against Zimbabwe. 5 of the 6 Bangladesh wickets were LBW. Liton for his highly accomplished innings of 126 scored of 105 balls was adjudged player of the match.

Zimbabwe neither had the resources nor the skill to chase or challenge the huge target against very strong 5 men Bangladesh bowling attack. Mustafiz looked threatening, Saifuddin struck early blows, Mashrafee was back among the wickets and Mehedy Miraj was also among the wickets. Only Young Madhvere ( 36) and Mutumbodzi (24) could resist a little bit. Zimbabwe could go as far as 152 before getting all out in 39.1 overs. Saifuddin (3/22), Mehedy Miraj (2/33) and captain Mashrafee ( 2/35) were the main destroyers . It was great watching Mashrafee back among the wickets.

One can not predict in a game of glorious uncertainty .Yet I will be surprised if Bangladesh does not go ahead getting another clean sweep as Zimbabwe appears no match for Bangladesh. I am not sure what kind of assurance it will give Bangladesh for performing better against stronger oppositions later in 2020. I would suggest preparing Naim and Afif giving them opportunities. Even couple of Under 19 can be included in the 3rd Match after wrapping up the series in the 2nd.
