Julio Cesar pays homage to Bangabandhu

DHAKA: Former Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar on Thursday (Jan 23) paid homage to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. 

He paid tribute to Bangabandhu by placing wreath at the portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and also visited Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka around 11:30 am. 

Radwan Mujib Siddique Bobby, son of Bangabandhu’s younger’s daughter Sheikh Rehana, accompanied Julio Cesar at that time.

Later Julio Cesar signed the visitors’ book at the museum.

The FIFA legend Julio Cesar along with FIFA official Miguel Filipe Augusto arrived in the capital on Wednesday on the two-day visit as a part of the campaign for the ongoing six-team Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football Tournament.

The Brazilian legend will also attend several programs during his two-day visit before leaving Dhaka on Friday at 1 pm.

The former Brazil goalkeeper is expected to meet the members of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) and members of the Swadhin Bangla Football team at 1:30 pm at the BFF house in Motijheel, will address a press conference there at 3:30 pm and will witness the second semifinal match of Bangabandhu Gold Cup between Bangladesh and Burundi at 5 pm on the day.

The 40-year-old Cesar played 87 international matches for Brazil from 2004 to 2014. He was selected for three FIFA World Cups in 2006, 2010, 2014 and two Copa America in 2004 and 2011.

Besides, he was also the member of Italian club Inter Milan, which clinched the UEFA Champions League 2009-10 and the FIFA Club World Cup 2010 titles.

Cesar also won Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year title in both 2009 and 2010 and won the Golden Glove award in the Confederations Cup 2013.
