13th SAG: Priya, Antara win gold medals for Bangladesh Karatist Marzan Akter Priya and Humaira Akther Antara

DHAKA: Karatist Humaira Akther Antara secured the fourth gold medal for Bangladesh in karate after beating Nepal's Anu Gurung by 5-2 points in the final of the women's -61kg kumite event at the ongoing 13th South Asian Games in Kathmandu on Tuesday (Dec 03).

Antara, who won the first medal for Bangladesh in this SA Games on Monday winning bronze in the women's individual kata event, smashed Gul Naz of Pakistan by 4-0 points in the semifinals.

Besides, Karatist Marzan Akter Priya earned the third gold medal for Bangladesh in women's -55kg kumite event beating Pakistani karatist Kouser Sana by 4-3 points in the final in the ongoing 13th South Asian Games in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Al Amin Islam clinched gold in the men's 60kg kumite event in karate in the morning beating Pakistani karateka in the final by four points to secure the top place. Nepal won bronze in the same event which was the day's first event of karate.

Bangladesh won two silvers and seven bronzes in Karate on Monday.

Earlier, Bangladesh won its first gold medal in taekwondo on Monday when Dipu Chakma clinched gold in the 29+ age category in poomsae event.

A 621-memebr strong Bangladesh contingent will represent in the regional meet which will be held in Kathmandu and Pokhara with Bangladesh will take part in twenty five disciplines out of twenty six in the South Asian regional biggest extravaganza.

The twenty five disciplines are archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, cycling, football, golf, fencing, Kho Kho, handball, hockey, judo, kabaddi, karate, shooting, squash, swimming, cricket, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu.
