India Won by an Innings and 130 Runs
Bangladesh Cricket team embraced yet another humiliating defeat in a test match a defeat by an innings and 130 runs well with in three days. Batting first Bangladesh got bundled out for 150 failing to cope up with quality three prong pace attack of Shami, Sharma and Yadav. The wicket had some moisture and little bit of grass not unexpected in a day one wicket. India toyed with weak Bangladesh attack plundering 493/6 by stumps of day two. India declared taking 343 first innings lead. Bangladesh as business as usual got bundled out for 213 in the second innings conceding yet another defeat by an innings and 130 runs well within the third day. Bangladesh would find it doubly difficult in resisting resurging India in the day night test with pink ball at Eden gardens and looks set for a comprehensive India wash.
New opening sensation Mayank Agarwall rewrote few pages of Indian batting record scoring a stroke full 243 comprising of 28 fours and 8 sixes. India produced such a tall score without any contribution of prolific Rohit Sharma and majestic Virat Kohli. Ajinka Rahane scored 86, Chteswar Pujara contributed 54, Ravindra Jadeja produced a quick fire undefeated 60. Among the ruins of Bangladesh.
Formidable India tested and tormented novice Bangladesh team failing to show any commitment or resolve. The incompetence of Bangladesh, lack of skills, temperament, composure and technique essential for playing longer version cricket against quality bowling attack on a slightly lively wicket was vividly exposed. An under prepared, ill equipped Bangladesh team got badly bruised, shocked and awed by formidable India. It was an encounter between David and Golliath, a thoroughly one sided contest between two unmatched teams.
The fate of Bangladesh was well curbed out the moment the news of declaration was announced at Indian overnight score of 493/6. Bangladesh top order was swept away by Indian new ball attack. Ishant, Yadav and Shami created Tsunami. Kayes, Shadman, Mominul and Mithun lacked courage, technique and temperament. Bangladesh soon was reduced to 4/44 and 5/72 before lunch. However the session between lunch and tea witnessed a little fight back as Liton K Das and Mushfiqur Rahim counter attacked. India had to fall back on spin duo Ashwin and Jadeja. Two partnerships of significance were witnessed. First Liton (35) combining with Mushfique (64) produced 63 for the 6th wicket and then Miraj (38) and Mushfique added 59 for the 7th wicket. However, their contributions could only reduce the margin of defeat to some extent as India wrapped up Bangladesh Innings for 213. Shami got 4/31, Ashwin finished with 3/42 and Yadav took 2/51.
A word of praise must go for superior Indian bowling attack. They bowled exceptionally well with the new .All three pacers looked elegant and aggressive seaming and swinging the ball prodigiously. Bangladeshi batsmen neither had the skills or technique to counter them.
Abu Jayed Rahi was the stand out performer. Why not Al Amin and Mustafiz selected for the test on a seam friendly wicket? India played with 5 front line bowlers against Bangladesh. Why Bangladesh dared to expose inexperienced Ebadat and played with only four front line bowlers? Bangladesh went to India completely unprepared. There was no practice match at home. BCB failed to negotiate any practice match in India.
This huge defeat once again demonstrated how poor Bangladesh is in longer version of the game. Arranging superfluous BPL would not bring any dividends for Bangladesh. The humiliation in test cricket on tour would continue until Bangladesh produce sporting wickets in domestic circuit and revamp domestic cricket format. Such efficient cricket administration and management is well outside the capability of novice BCB. One hopes that before a major damage is done to Bangladesh cricket, adoring cricket lover Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would deal with BCB seriously. She is the ultimate resort of all good developments in Bangladesh now.
Bangladesh plays its longer version domestic cricket on low slow turning wickets. Pace bowlers hardly get any response from dead surfaces. Moreover, BCB directors influence manipulation of matches. Senior players hardly appear in local longer version cricket. Top performers in local cricket are ignored. It is alleged that a particular club and franchise dominate player’s selection exclusively. Until such infectious deceases are cured Bangladesh ignominy in Test Cricket on tour would continue.
