National footballers narrowly escape plane crash

DHAKA: The team was scheduled to leave for Oman on the BG021 flight of Bangladesh Airlines Sunday (Nov 4) night to play a return match of the World Cup 2022 and Asian Cup 2020. 

Bangladesh national team footballers narrowly escape the plane crash. However, the plane returned to the airport after flying in the sky for an hour due to mechanical glitches.

According to various media reports, the plane departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport two hours after it had reached here at 9:30 pm. At the beginning, the plane was delayed due to a mechanical glitch. 

But power outage occurred while the plane was flying in the sky. Finally, after flying in the sky for about an hour, the pilot returned the plane to Dhaka.

However, all the footballers and officials of Bangladesh team are reported to be unhurt. Bangladesh team is scheduled to leave for Oman at 10am on another flight on Monday (Nov 4).

Bangladesh team will play the fourth match of the World Cup selection on November 14 at Al-Sib Stadium in Oman.  The coach, Jamie Day, who was enjoying holiday in US, is expected to join the team today. 

Besides, captain Jamal Bhuiyan will fly from Spain to join the team. He earlier went to Spain to give commentary on the La Liga match.

Bangladesh, in the last qualifying match, made a draw against the strong India in the rankings. Earlier, they lost to Afghanistan and Qatar, the host of the 2022 World Cup.
