Bangladesh Women team for T20 WC qualifier announced

DHAKA: Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced Bangladesh Women team, to be captained by Salma Khatun, for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019.

All-rounder Rumana Ahmed ruled out of the tournament due to her knee injury, said Nazmul Abedeen, BCB women’s wing manager.  

Rumana, 28, is second among Bangladesh's all-time Twenty20 International run-scorers (663) and top among wicket-takers (52), and has captained the squad. She was also named in the ICC Women's T20I Team of the Year in 2018.

Bangladesh are defending champions at the qualifying tournament, which takes place in Scotland from 31 August to 7 September. 

Bangladesh will face Papua New Guinea at Forfarshire Cricket Club on August 31, while Bangladesh to face USA at Arbroath Sports Club on September 1 and Scotland v Bangladesh match at Forfarshire Cricket Club on September 3:

Eight teams will fight it out for two qualifying spots in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia early next year.  

Bangladesh, Scotland, PNG and the USA form Group A, while Group B consists of Ireland, Thailand, Namibia, and the Netherlands

Besides, A1 v B2 will face off at Forfarshire Cricket Club while B3 v A4 at Arbroath Sports Club, B1 v A2 at Forfarshire Cricket Club, A3 v B4 at Arbroath Sports Club on September 5. 

The Final match will be held at Forfarshire Cricket Club on September 7.
