Ben Stokes is set to become Sir Ben Stokes for his World Cup heroics after the two contenders to be the next prime minister of the UK said they would give the allrounder a knighthood.

Both Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt have promised to KNIGHT Ben Stokes after his heroics in 2019 Cricket World Cup Final.

The Tory leadership rivals both pledged to honour the all-rounder after his performance at Lord's, with BoJo even joking he would make him a Duke.

It would represent the ultimate redemption story for the cricketer, after his involvement in a late night fracas two years ago landed him in court.

Johnson, the frontrunner for the role, replied: "I will give dukedoms, whatever - I will go to the maximum, to, what, the Garter King of Arms. Yes is the answer, absolutely".

When the question was put to Hunt, he replied succinctly: "Of course".

Their answers came during a series of rapid-fire series of 'yes or no' questions at the end of the leadership debate, hosted by The Sun and talkRADIO.

Stokes top-scored in the epic battle, with 84 not out, and his crucial runs in the last over, including some overthrows luckily deflected off his bat, saw England reach a super over - where he batted with Jos Buttler to see Eoin Morgan's men win in incredible fashion.

However, eleven Englishmen have been knighted for services to cricket, the most recent of which was former Test and ODI skipper, Sir Alastair Cook.
