Shakib joins Kapil, Yuvraj in World Cup record

DHAKA: Bangladesh's ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan scored a half-century and then took a five-wicket haul to become only the second player to achieve the double in the same match at World Cup.

India’s Yuvraj Singh is the first player who completes the double at Bangaluru against Ireland in 2011 World Cup. Yuvraj followed up his 5/31 with unbeaten 50.

Shakib also joined Kapil Dev and Yuvraj Singh in the list of players who have scored a ton and taken a five-wicket haul in the same edition of the cricket's showpiece event.

This was Shakib’s first 5-wicket haul in World Cup. Earlier, Kapil Dev took a five-wicket haul in a World Cup edition in 1983, Yuvraj in 2011 and now Shakib in 2019. Incidentally, Kapil and Yuvraj ended up winning the World Cups in 1983 and 2011.

During this match against Afghanistan on Monday (June 24), he also became the first Bangladeshi bowler to take five-wicket in a World Cup game and also the first batsman from the country to 1000 runs (1016 in 27 matches).

The world number one all-rounder became the only player in cricket history scoring over 1000 runs and taking 44 wickets.

He is highest scorer in this world cup with 476 runs.

Shakib also became the first player in World Cup history to amass 1000-plus runs and take 30-plus wickets. He now has 1016 runs and 33 wickets in 27 World Cup games.
