UNIVERSITY CORRESPONDENT: Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders reportedly tortured four students of Jahurul Haque Hall unit of Dhaka University on Tuesday (January 21).

Afterwards, BCL men handed them, suspecting as members of Chhatra Shibir, over to law enforcers but police released four of them on Wednesday (January 22), because no involvement was found.

This incident happened following the gruesome killing of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Abrar Fahad on October 7 of 2019, which is still ripe in people’s minds.

The four students were identified as M Mukim Chowdhury, 2nd year student of Tourism and Hospitality Management Department, Sanwar Hossain, 3rd year student of Political Science Department, Minhaz Uddin, 2nd year student of Islamic History and Culture Department and Afsar Uddin, 2nd year student of Arabic Department of the university.

Abul Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Shahbag Police Station under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) told Banglanews: “They were interrogated and then released, because no links were found.”

Asked proctor of the university professor A.K.M Golam Rabbani about the torture, he said it was their internal issue, but if anyone maked a complaint, they would investigate it.
