AL has no objection over DCCs polls reschedule Obaidul Quader speaking to reporters

DHAKA: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said his party or the government had no objection to changing the date of polls to two city corporations.

Obaidul Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, believed outrage has been brewed among Hindu community as Dhaka city corporations’ polls and Saraswati Puja were scheduled for the same day.

Election Commission will decide on an acceptable date before or after Saraswati Puja in consultation with them (Hindu community), he said, adding AL or the government will have no objection if date of elections is changed.

The minister was briefing media at AL’s Dhanmondi political office in the capital on Saturday (January 18).

On December 22, 2019, the Election Commission announced that the elections to the Dhaka south and north city corporations will be held on January 30.
