DUCSU VP Nur faces defamation suit

DHAKA: A defamation suit was filed against vice president (VP) of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Nurul Haque Nur in for his alleged involvement in extortion and tender manipulation.

Mujahid Kamal Uddin, vice president (VP) of Salimullah Muslim Hall Students’ Union, filed the case with the court of the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ziaur Rahman on Tuesday (Dec 10).

Clerk Rakib Chowdhury of the court said Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ziaur Rahman ordered the officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahbag Police Station to submit report by January 8 after recording statement of the plaintiff.

According to case statement, Nur was involved in tender business, extortion and lobbying for earning quick money by misusing his post of DUCSU VP.

Controversy was created regarding a phone conversation of Nur, where he was heard allegedly making request for money to an unidentified person.

Ruling out the allegation Nur, however, said a portion of his phone conversation was released intentionally.
