MP Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal passes away

DHAKA: Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal politician and the incumbent Member of Parliament from Chittagong-8 Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal passed away in India on Thursday (Nov 7) morning. He was 67.

He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences Bangalore, India around 7:45am.

His younger brother Moniruddin Khan confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

Badal was under the treatment of Devi Sethi, a renowned cardiologist at the hospital, from October 18. 

The bodies of Badal will be brought to the country within a short time, he added. 

Badal was born in Boakhali upazila of Chittagong on February 21 in 1952. He studied at the Chittagong Collegiate School.

Badal is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter. He served as the Executive President of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal.

He was elected as an MP thrice from Chattogram-8 constituency. He was known as a great orator in parliament.

Badal, who was involved with Bangladesh Chhatra League in his student days, actively took part in the liberation war. He was one of the key persons who tried to prevent offloading of firearms at Chattogram port during the war.

Expressing deep sorrow at the death of Moin Uddin Khan Badal, Workers Party President and Member of Parliament Rashed Khan Menon, said he was a valiant freedom fighter. He was also at the forefront of all mass movements in the post-war period. He kept the Parliament alive with his exceptional speech. 

“We are deeply saddened to have lost such a skilled parliamentarian and politician. We wish peace to his departed soul”.
