DHAKA: Former foreign minister M Morshed Khan and also vice-chairman of the BNP resigned from the party.

He sent the resignation letter to party chairperson Khaleda Zia through party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, sources concerned said.

Morshed Khan became lawmaker in 1986 from Jatiya Party. Later he joined the BNP in 1991. Morshed was elected in the 6th, 7th and 8th parliamentary elections from Chattogram.

He became the foreign minister after he had been elected in the 8th national election held in 2001.

In 2008, Morshed was convicted and sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment for amassing Tk 1.7 crore wealth illegally and concealing information about wealth worth Tk 91.34 lakh in his wealth statement.
