Death threat to PM: Gias Quader jailed for 3 years

CHOTTGRAM: BNP Vice Chairman Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury has been sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment in a case filed against him for issuing death threat to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

On the other hand, he was fined Tk 5,000 with a three-month more jail term for failure to pay the fine.

Chattogram Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahidullah Kaiser on Wednesday (Oct 30) handed down the verdict

Gias is now absconding in the case filed with Fatikchhari Police Station.

According to the case statement, in a discussion on the death anniversary of Ziaur Rahman on May 29 last year, Giasuddin said the fate of Hasina would turn out to be worse than that of her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was assassinated in 1975.

Fatikchhari upazila Chhtra League President Jamal Uddin, as a plaintiff, filed the case against some 60-70 others, over threatening Sheikh Hasina with death.

However, Gias is a younger brother to executed war criminal Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury.
