Verdict of Rajshahi’s Tipu razakar any day

DHAKA: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) will give its judgement any day in crimes against humanity case against alleged razakar Abdus Sattar alias Tipu Sultan alias Tipu razakar in Rajshahi.

Justice Md Shahinur Islam, chairman of the three-member panel of the ICT, on Thursday (Oct 17) kept the judgement on CAV, (curia advisari vult) after conclusion of arguments by the prosecution and defence in the case. 

Mokhlesur Rahman Badal moved for state in the courtroom while Ghazi MH Tamim Prosecutor for the accused.

An investigation report was finalized on March 27 last year. On that day, investigation agency of ICT said to have found evidence against a Rajshahi man over his alleged involvement in crimes committed during the Liberation War in 1971.

Abdus Sattar alias Tipu alias Tipu Sultan, 66, who is now in jail, was "involved" in the killing of at least 10 people, torturing two people and looting and arson at twelve houses in areas under Boalia Police Station of Rajshahi.

Agency's coordinator Abdul Hannan Khan and co-coordinator Sanaul Huq gave the information at a press conference at its Dhanmondi office.

Tipu was a member IslamiChhatra Sangha, the then student wing of anti-liberation Jamaat-e-Islami, and got involved with Razakar Bahini, an auxiliary force of the Pakistani occupation army, during the nine-month long war, Sanaul Huq said.

The formal charge was then filed to the ICT. Later, the charges were framed against him on August 8 of that year.

Later, the ICT sent Tipu Sultan to jail after police produced him before it in a case filed over committing crimes in 1971.

Abdus Sattar alias Tipu Sultan, 66, of Boalia upazila, was an alleged member of Razakar Bahini during the war, according to the prosecution. He was arrested in a criminal case on May 9 and shown arrested in the war crimes case on May 14.
